I'm not a very serious guy. It's rare for me to take anything too seriously without throwing in some humor- unfortunately this is one of those rare occasions.
Michael Jackson has passed away recently. At first I didn't really care, and then it sunk in the next day. Why am I so bummed? Hell, ask anyone why they're bummed- chances are most of them don't even know. For some reason, Michael Jackson, the butt of many jokes, the laughingstock of various people, left a massive impact on us in ways we don't even realize. Is it the way he was always sort of there? Yeah, probably. But more than that is the way he impacted the world.
Michael Jackson was a great singer from the start. At 14 his career began. Michael brought us Smooth Criminal, Billie Jean, and Thriller. The impact Thriller had on our fucking world is immeasurable. Jesus, Thriller became a key part of our dance culture. The thing about good ol' MJ is his music was amazing. Michael Jackson was truly gifted. He brought us timeless music. I'm bummed about MJ's death, so I can't imagine what it must feel like for those who grew up with him.
Before his death MJ was preparing for a tour. A comeback. 8 hours a day, dancing with dancers and practicing for what might have been the greatest singer's comeback.
MJ is up there with The Beatles, Prince, and the legends of music. In fact, I myself think he even tops them. When it comes right down to it, I suppose the reason I'm so bummed about Michael Jackson's passing is that he is gone.
The King of Pop, and you had better fucking believe it, is gone.
Rest in peace, Michael Jackson, now and forever. You will be missed.
